Just Another Name For Sugar

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Most of us probably already know to avoid obviously sugar sweetened products, but did you know that because of our health concerns, manufacturers are now covering up the addictive sugar ingredients with misleading names.

For example, brown sugars, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup, honey, molasses, sucrose and turbinado are all just another name for sugar.

Brown sugar is actually white which has added molasses to it. It’s generally found any many baked goods such as chocolate chip cookies.

Corn Syrup is made from corn starch and is found in practically everything from salad dressing to your child’s favorite breakfast cereal.

Dextrose is less of a concern, but can still be a problem if it’s abused. It naturally occurs in the form of glucose, which is found in many fresh fruits and vegetables.

Fructose is often found in the juice of many fruits and vegetables, but it is also used in crystalline form as a sweetener.

High-Fructose Corn Syrup is a highly processed syrup made from corn starch and fructose. It’s found in many processed foods, imitation juices and sodas.

Honey is a natural sweetener that contains fructose and glucose. It’s often used as a replacement for many so called healthy foods.

Molasses is a dark syrup that is made by a process of boiling sugars. It’s found in many baked goods and is often used as a sweet topping for pancakes.

Sucrose is made from cane sugars and is often found is sweetened drinks such as kids juice drinks and some sodas.

Turbinado is made by spinning cane sugars in a turbine, which then creates large brown crystals. It’s often sold as an organic in raw form.

Unfortunately the above are only a few hidden names for sugar and odds are almost every processed food you see on the grocer’s shelves will contain some form of sugar sweetener. Manufacturers want you to buy, buy, buy and the only way to assure that you do is by making our taste buds happy.

And while the odds may seem stacked against us, they’re really not. We just need to take the necessary actions towards better nutrition by eating whole foods rather than processed foods.

We should also eliminate soda, cocktail juices and other pre-sweetened drinks. And to help our bodies get back on track again, we need to make sure that our vitamins are not made of sugars as well.

Instead, look for one that is all natural like Sea Aloe. SeaAloe doesn’t contain any form of sugar, just 100% wholesome goodness. I don’t know of any vitamin that can beat that. (SeaAloe is the original Seasilver formula.)

The Sugar Addiction

Monday, June 8th, 2009

One may not think that sugar is an addictive, but it is. As a matter of fact, sugar may very well be even more addictive than an illegal drug. But what’s really interesting is, according to the FDA, in order for a substance to be an addiction, it must cause a craving and it has to be hazardous to your health. Duh…Yet the FDA still approves it in almost everything on the food market, today.

Still, some experts argue that the cravings are just a figment of our imaginations and we’re just used to eating the sweet stuff. Yet for some people, sugar cravings are just as difficult to kick as an illegal drug. And there may even be withdrawal symptoms like teeth chattering and shaking. Not to mention the potential risks for all sorts of diseases.

Think that you can easily avoid sugar? Think again. A majority of the foods we purchase contain the addictive stuff. You can find it in salad dressings, soups, crackers, stuffing mixes, breads, mayonnaise and even tomato sauces. And unfortunately many manufacturers are hiding it under another name to fool consumers who want to get healthy. Sugar can go by brown sugar, corn syrup, dextrose, fructose, high-fructose corn syrup, honey, molasses, sucrose and turbinado.

The best way to avoid sugary products is by reading labels, avoiding processed foods and choosing wholesome real foods (not out of a box food). Sometimes just doing those things simply isn’t enough, however.

If you already have a house full of sweets, keep it out of sight or better yet, throw it out. If you can’t bear to throw it away, give it away. If you’re not sure you can keep track of your daily sweet eating habits, you may find that keeping a food journal is helpful. Don’t forget to write down even those tiny little nibbles such as the teaspoon full of chocolate covered peanuts you had from that candy machine while you were waiting for your appointment.

And finally, remember that even vitamins can contain sugar! However, that doesn’t mean every one is a bad guy. Take for instance, SeaAloe. Sea Aloe is a 100% natural liquid vitamin that doesn’t contain sugars or other unnatural ingredients. SeaAloe is the original Seasilver vitamin formula.

Sugar may be an addiction, but it is beatable with a healthy diet and the right vitamin. So why feel sluggish and tired when you can be energetic and alive.

What They Don’t Want You to Know About MSG

Sunday, June 7th, 2009

There is a secret lurking in the foods that we eat. A secret that is so dangerous that the food industry does not want you knowing about it. It’s called MSG (monosodium glutamate) and it’s killing us right now.

Monosodium Glutamate is a white crystallized powder used to enhance the flavor of food. It has been used since the late 1940’s and more so in Chinese cooking until recently. Now this dangerous powder is found in almost every food product on the market today.

But it’s not just the shelves of supermarkets that this dangerous stuff lurks. Many Chinese restaurants are still using monosodium glutamate in their foods. And even if they say they’re not using the stuff, there’s no way of telling if it’s true or not.

So what makes monosodium glutamate so dangerous? For one it’s been shown in studies to kill the brain cells of laboratory animals, so imagine what it could do to humans. But, brain cells are not the only health concern when it comes to the stuff. Monosodium Glutamate could also be linked to diseases like Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s and Parkinson’s disease.

You can also add migraine headaches, stroke, numbness, seizures, blurred vision, chronic fatigue, diabetes, and liver damage to that list as well. And if that’s not enough, MSG could also be the reason why so many of us are overweight even if we are trying to watch our calorie intake.

Unfortunately, your local supermarket isn’t the only place that carries foods laced with monosodium glutamate. Even organic foods found in health food stores are no stranger to the toxic powder.

And because the powder is such a health concern to many consumers, manufacturers have began using other words like glutamate, sodium caseinate, calcium caseinate, hydrolyzed protein, autolyzed protein, textured protein, plant protein extract, textured soy protein, textured whey protein and yeast extract to disguise its true name. And sadly some manufacturers will go even further by using simple terms like natural flavors to hide it.

While there was numerous health concerns pointed out over the years, the FDA continued to deny that monosodium glutamate was dangerous more than once. Maybe they think that damage caused in laboratory animals is not enough or maybe they’re assuming that humans are invincible, who knows. There is one thing for certain however; monosodium glutamate is a very dangerous substance that is added to almost all processed foods.

So the only real way to remove MSG from your diet is by trusting yourself. Instead of purchasing processed foods or dining out, choose whole foods and cook at home. There is no better way to eating healthy than by preparing it with your own two hands.

There is NO MSG in SeaAloe, never has been and never will be. Sea Aloe is the original Seasilver product, and is an all-natural whole food vitamin and mineral supplement containing over 80 nutrients and all essential amino acids.

SeaAloe wants you to know what’s in your nutritional supplements.

Natural Vitamin Supplements

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Vitamin supplements are a necessary part of everyone’s daily routine. Regardless of age or current health, getting a full supply of vitamins and minerals every day is extremely important for each and every person.

Even if you feel like you’re in great health, you may be missing important vitamins that play a key role in helping you stay healthy. Nutritional health supplements are essential to complete health, and one of the very best ways to get what you need is by taking natural vitamin supplements.

Many people don’t realize that the vitamin supplements that they take could be synthetic. While vitamins can be made synthetically with the same molecular structure as those occurring in nature, they don’t deliver what natural vitamins do.

The reason for this is that nature makes vitamins with “extras” that cannot be reproduced in a laboratory setting.  The biggest difference between natural and synthetic is that natural supplements have co-factors.

Co-factors are a fairly recent discovery and they still are not fully understood. What is known is that these substances occur naturally with a given vitamin, and they help make the vitamin effective by acting as catalysts.

When a natural vitamin supplement is properly processed, the co-factors remain with the vitamin giving your body a definite advantage over synthetics. It’s impossible at this time to create a synthetic vitamin that comes with co-factors.

Another very important reason why natural vitamin supplements are better is that when derived from the natural source, they come in complexes, rather than alone. Vitamins always work better in their natural complex.

You can purchase synthetic complexes, but the natural ones trump the synthetics simply because they were put together by nature rather than in a laboratory. Make sure that you do your homework and read labels when you are looking for natural vitamins. Unfortunately, the word natural is used rather loosely in labeling, so pay close attention.

Often, vitamin supplements that are created in labs come to you in the form of pills and capsules with fillers, colors and preservatives. While this might make them last longer and look prettier, you certainly don’t need the extra ingredients. Those extras might even be unhealthy for you.

Your body is pretty picky about what it finds usable and what it cannot use. Sometimes, synthetic vitamin supplements are actually made from unusable forms of the vitamin, and provide little or no health benefit at all!

Far superior to synthetics, natural vitamin supplements provide your body with a complete and healthy source of nutrients that compliment your already healthy diet. Vitamins and minerals are essential to each of us and help the body to produce the building blocks of life.

Without vitamins and minerals, we find ourselves ill, run-down and weak. Certainly, your first source of nutrition should be a healthy diet, but you also need high quality nutritional health supplements to assure optimal health.
